Over two decades ago, Fraiche Jewelry started out with a unique location inside a US Air Force installation in Okinawa, Japan. The shop's owner Carol Tanner wanted to bring fine gems and pearls at offshore prices to the American servicemen and families while stationed in Asia. Carol's basic business requirement: find trustworthy suppliers in the gem industry adhering to quality manufacturing practices.

Carol Tanner sourced small suppliers of quality gems and pearls, and located goldsmiths who would carefully craft fine jewelry pieces on a small-order scale. Fraiche Jewelry grew to be known by US military and government personnel throughout Asia, and the Fraiche Jewelry line became a featured trunk show at Nordstrom fine jewelry counters in America.
